Taste the Outback

About W.D. Kekwick
W.D. Kekwick was known for his travels through the Australian outback as second in command on J.M. Stuart's exploration journeys. His last exploration appointment was with W.C. Goss as collector of botanic and natural history specimens.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that Mr. Kekwick tasted some of the collected samplings, and after tasting honey he reportedly stated: "Real men would prefer Desert Bloodwood while ladies might take kindly to River Red Gum."
We are proud to offer both varieties, including a sampling collected in and around the town of Alice Springs. The connoisseur's choice lives on in our desert honey collection available in various quantities raw and unheated, and also as wild honeycomb if requested.
Desert Bloodwood Honey
Collected from trees in isolated desert locations, this honey carries the essence of the Australian outback.

River Red Gum Honey
Collected from trees along dry water courses, this honey embodies the resilience of the desert landscape.

Desert Honey & Queen Bees - Northern Territory
Look, we're not going to sugarcoat it - the desert's a bastard of a place to keep bees. But that's exactly what makes our honey and queens worth having. They come from Alice Springs and the surrounding scrubland where everything's either trying to kill you or dying of thirst. Our queens? They've learned to work with what they've got, and they don't quit when things get rough.

Desert Collection Honey - 400g
This is what 400 grams of proper desert honey looks like. No fancy packaging, no marketing bullshit - just honey that comes from trees tough enough to survive where most things can't. It's not cheap, it's not pretty, but it's honest. If you want honey that tastes like something, this is it. If you want bland supermarket syrup, keep looking.

Desert Collection Honey - 150g
Same honey, smaller jar. Good for people who aren't sure they want to commit to the full experience yet, or for giving to someone who thinks they know what honey tastes like. Fair warning - once you try this, regular honey's going to taste like disappointment.
Desert Collection Honeycomb - 100g
Raw honeycomb straight from the hive. No spinning, no heating, no processing at all. You get the wax, you get the honey, you get whatever the bees decided to put in there. Some people love it, some people think it's weird. We're not here to convince you either way.
Queen Bees - Northern Territory
These queens are bred in Alice Springs because that's where they learn to be tough. They handle 45-degree summers and freezing winters without falling apart. Most southern queens would curl up and die in conditions these girls call Tuesday. We're not saying they're better than everyone else's queens - we're saying they're different. You decide if that matters to you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Our desert honey doesn't mess around. While other honeys come from manicured gardens and comfortable climates, ours comes from the harsh, unforgiving Australian outback. The desert flora around Alice Springs and Central Australia's dry watercourses don't hand over their nectar easily - they concentrate it, toughen it up. The result? Honey with real character and complex flavors you won't find anywhere else. Our Desert Bloodwood hits hard with robust intensity, while River Red Gum offers something a bit more refined. As old W.D. Kekwick himself noted, there's a honey here for every taste.
Dead right it is. We don't heat it, we don't filter out the good stuff, and we sure as hell don't pasteurize it into some bland supermarket syrup. Our honey comes straight from the hive using traditional cold extraction - the way it's been done for centuries. Every enzyme, every bit of pollen, every natural property stays exactly where nature put it. If you want processed honey, you're looking in the wrong place.
Keep it simple - room temperature, dry spot, away from direct sun. Don't overthink it. Honey's been keeping itself preserved since before refrigerators existed, so don't go shoving it in the fridge unless you want it to crystallize faster. When it does crystallize (and it will, because that's what real honey does), just warm the jar in some hot water. Done properly, this honey will outlast you, your kids, and probably their kids too.
Look, we're not doctors, and we're not making any miracle claims here. What we will say is this: our customers tell us they use our honey for everything from soothing sore throats to dealing with seasonal allergies. Desert honey's packed with antioxidants, enzymes, and nutrients that you won't find in processed alternatives. The unique desert flowers our bees work might offer benefits you can't get elsewhere, but everyone's different. We just make the honey - you decide what it does for you.
We'll get our honey to you anywhere in Australia. Takes about 5-10 business days depending on where you are, and we pack it properly so it arrives in one piece. We've been doing this long enough to know how to get fragile goods across this big country without breaking them. For international orders, drop us a line through the contact form and we'll see what we can work out.
