Everything you wanted to know about our raw desert honey from Alice Springs.
Is your honey really raw and unprocessed?
Yes. We don't heat, filter, or process our honey in any way. It goes straight from the hive into jars. That's why it crystallises naturally - a sign of real, raw honey. Supermarket honey is often heated to prevent crystallisation, which destroys the enzymes and nutrients.
What's the difference between Desert Bloodwood and River Red Gum honey?
Desert Bloodwood honey is darker and has a stronger, more complex flavour with caramel notes. River Red Gum honey is lighter and milder with a smooth, buttery taste. Both come from trees that survive extreme desert conditions, giving them unique flavour profiles you won't find in coastal honey.
How long does desert honey last?
Honey never goes bad. Archaeologists have found 3,000-year-old honey in Egyptian tombs that's still edible. Our honey will crystallise over time (usually 3-12 months), but that's natural. Just warm the jar in hot water to liquify it again.
Do you ship Australia-wide?
Yes! We ship from Alice Springs to anywhere in Australia. Orders typically ship within 2 business days. Delivery takes 3-5 days to major cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane) and 5-7 days to regional areas. All orders include tracking.
Why is desert honey more expensive than supermarket honey?
Desert honey is a limited batch product. The desert only blooms after rare rains, so we can't harvest year-round like commercial operations. Plus, keeping bees alive in 47°C heat and months of drought isn't cheap. You're paying for genuine outback honey, not mass-produced sugar water.
Can I buy queen bees year-round?
No. Queen breeding depends on desert conditions and seasonal blooms. We typically have queens available in spring and early summer (September-December), but availability varies. Contact us to check current stock or get on the waitlist for the next batch.
